If you’re involved in the marketing of a small business, you’ve probably come across some numbers about the ROI of email marketing, such as these rounded up by the folks at Campaign Monitor:
When it comes to purchases made as a result of receiving a marketing message, email has the highest conversion rate (66%), when compared to social, direct mail and more. (The DMA)
Email is 40x more successful at acquiring new clients than either Facebook and Twitter. (McKinsey & Company)
Companies sending over 100,000 emails each month see a 94% return on investment. (MECLabs)
Those are numbers that, if you’re concerned with sales and marketing, you can’t ignore. I don’t know about you, but I’m more likely to open and click through emails that I’ve intentionally registered for, and the ones that are visually clean and designed thoughtfully. Here are some of my favorites:
For years now, I've been slightly obsessed with Design*Sponge and the Biz Ladies. I pour over each email, taking in the location, colors, inspirations, artists, etc. I'm nourished by the way they weave in the business aspect of the artists. It's nothing less than inspirational. It's a healthy obsession, I promise.
I love seeing and reading this local, Austin-area email, and I get hungry every time I open it! They highlight recipes in a visually appealing way. They spotlight local vendors and artisans with a beautiful, straightforward and easy-to-read style.
A Brooklyn-based organisation, Madesmith helps "product designers and makers learn sustainable business and creative skills from top experts who have created successful brands." Their emails are stunning, fresh, simple. While there is copy, it's designed so well that there is air and space to make avoid any heaviness . . . and I usually read it.
Founded as a newsletter by actress Gwyneth Paltrow, goop offers a fun mix of lifestyle topics from health and fitness to travel to entertainment and more. It's beautifully designed - crisp, clean and intentional.
Based out of one of the most amazing American cities, San Francisco, Dot & Bo delightfully offers fun and modern design inspiration and products. Text is at a minium, design is almost all product and clear-cut design inpiration.
A dangerously fun and feminine email, the Glitter Guide offers fashion and lifestyle tips in a less than pretentious style. The emails have much more information and sponsors, but they keep it designed well and to a minimum.
Hope you enjoyed seeing some of my faves. I'd love to hear what yours are!
